The Tax Exempt Setup feature in Appliance.io allows you to easily mark qualifying customers as tax-exempt — ensuring accurate billing for schools, non-profits, and resale businesses. Once enabled, all future Quotes and Orders will automatically exclude sales tax for that customer.
📍 Accessing Tax Exempt Setup
To begin, open the Customer Hub from your sidebar. Locate the customer you want to update and open their profile. At the top, you’ll see an Edit Customer button — it’s right between New Quote and Archive. Click it to enter edit mode. Scroll down slightly until you find the Tax Exempt checkbox. Check this box to mark the customer as tax-exempt. 💡 Note: Tax exemption applies only to future Quotes and Orders. Past transactions will remain unchanged.🧾 Step 1: Add Sales Tax ID Number
Enter the customer’s Sales Tax ID Number in the provided field. This step is essential to validate their exemption status and ensure compliance.🏷️ Step 2: Select Tax Exempt Option
Under Tax Exempt Options, choose one of the following:- Other – for organizations such as schools, churches, and non-profits.
- Resale – for businesses purchasing products to resell.
📤 Step 3: Upload Certificate
Upload the customer’s Tax-Exempt or Resale Certificate. This documentation allows the Admin team to verify and approve the exemption quickly. For your reference:-
Resale Certificate: Standard form verifying purchase for resale.

Sales Tax Exemption Certificate: Issued for qualifying non-profit or educational organizations.
